THESE SERVICES, PLACES, INSTITUTIONS AND ORGANIZATIONS ARE VITAL TO OUR NEIGHBORHOOD
A CSA shares risks and rewards of farming with a local farmer and to reap the bounty of those rewards by receiving fresh, local and seasonal produce. In Brooklyn Heights we’re lucky to have two CSAs. Both are accepting new members.
Brooklyn Community Foundation is on a mission to spark lasting social change, mobilizing people, capital and expertise for a fair and just Brooklyn. The first and only public foundation solely dedicated to Brooklyn’s charitable community, the foundation works in partnership with generous donors and community leaders to bolster vital nonprofits, strengthen neighborhoods, and increase opportunities for youth. To date, they have provided over $30 million in grants to more than 300 nonprofits throughout the borough since 2009.
The Brooklyn Heights Association has long worked at the intersection of the forces of change and the desire to preserve and protect the neighborhood’s unique historic architecture, and the safe, family-friendly community that is Brooklyn Heights.
The BHA may be able to help you remedy quality of life issues that haven’t been solved by calling 311 including: problems with the delivery of regular municipal services like garbage collection; construction on a building when it is suspected that it is occurring without permits; inappropriate alteration of the exterior of a building within the historic district; illegally parked vehicles; tree damage; graffiti; noise pollution and environmental concerns.
Members of the Brooklyn Heights Neighborhood Association are some of our neighborhood’s super heroes.
Brooklyn Community Board 2 is one of 59 geographically exclusive, independent City agencies that serve as the most local form of representative government in New York City. Community boards are responsible principally for local review of land use and other applications, budget allocations, and municipal service delivery.
