The Brooklyn Heights Association has begun an online petition in support of the enactment of State legislation authorizing the NYC Department of Transportation to use Design-Build on the reconstruction of the BQE triple cantilever. Should the State fail to pass this authorizing legislation by April 2018, the reconstruction project will extend well beyond 2026, the date that DOT has determined it will have to rout 16,000 trucks a day onto local streets due to the BQE’s structural deterioration. This scenario will impose catastrophic impacts on our communities: nightmarish traffic congestion, damage to the regional economy, more pedestrian deaths, and higher rates of asthma. Design-Build will not only save 2-3 years of time, it will also save $113 million in cost. By signing the petition, you will send a message to the State legislature and Governor Cuomo that Design-Build authority needs to be enacted NOW!
